HOW are the Japanese not sub 60 but the Americans are? The list of sub 2:10 Japanese is a kilometer long. If it weren't for Rupp, and Ryan Hall long ago, the US would be devastated vs Japan.

Keep in mind, sub 60 in the half is more like sub 2:07 in the full. Japanese have only a few sub 2:07s. Sub 2:10 is more like sub 1:02:00. Not that big of a deal.

Japanese runners do better in the longer race due to lower weight.

Not really, Japanese sprinters are better than whites. Japanese don't care that much about the half marathon, they only run them during marathon buildups and don't really develop the speed necessary for a fast half.

Check your facts. No Japanese is close to Lemaitre. Pale in comparison especially in the 200. 400? forget it. 800? Not even in the same zip code.

Some sprint fans may know better but it seemed pretty obvious whites stayed away from sprinting for 40 years. Are you just talking about American white sprinters? Because they have really stayed away.

Anyway, I do think the Japanese care a lot about the half marathon. Not as much as the full but they certainly do care. I mean they are passionate about the 100k ultra!! How can they not be into the 2nd most popular world distance road race after the full marathon??

Lol. You can say this about any runner or nation. How is the Japanese 10k? Are they also not fast there because they are building up to half marathons?

Totally wrong, in fact due to the focus on Ekiden the depth in Japanese half marathoning is even better than in the full marathon. It's true though that they are much better at converting those half marathon times into decent marathon results than other nations with good half marathon depth like e.g. the US (at Beppu-Oita today the 100th japanese marathoner of all time went sub2:10, other than Kenya and Ethiopia no nation is even close)

Olympic champion Stephen Kiprotich competed as well, though he showed up in bad shape and only ran 1:05:53 (115th place).
