This is a good one.
After couple runs in the Saucony Freedom 3, I am loving them.
The midsole is now Pwrrun+, so the shoe is softer, bouncier, and a lot lighter. The balance of the shoe is greatly improved. It doesn't feel bottom-heavy and slappy anymore. Still super flexible.
The upper is pretty nice too. The knit texture of the 2 remains in the forefoot, but the midfoot has good lockdown with more of a tighter weave and trace fiber stitching. And there is a heel counter that keeps the heel secure. It is nice and light, but a little cushioned around the heel. Very comfortable without being overly padded.
This works as a lighter weight but cushioned daily trainer. The heel feels adequately cushioned for a shoe with a 4mm drop and the forefoot does not feel thin at all. I think it will work for all types of footstrikes that don't mind a more unstructured ride. Still not for stability shoe runners obviously.
I would compare it to the Epic React 2, Turbo 2, Reebok Forever Floatride Energy, NB FuelCell Propel, Skechers Gorun 7/+, Beacon 2, Rincon, etc...
This will replace the Epic React for me because the midsole foam is better and doesn't harden in the cold so much as well as the Floatride Energy because the forefoot feels better cushioned, the shoe feels softer and bouncier, and it is lighter. The upper isn't baggy like the Propel and can actually get some lockdown. I find Pwrrun+ to be much nicer than FuelCell as well. The Beacon and Rincon's midsoles didn't impress me when I tried them.
The Epic React and Forever Energy have been favorites for daily running for a while, and this will beat out both of those I think.
Lineup looks like this:
Recovery: Triumph 17
Daily to tempo: Freedom 3/Turbo 2
Tempo-interval: Floatride Run Fast/Razor 3
