Hey so I'm just wondering if there's anyway to work around having a questionable coach. Everyone has to do the track workouts he assigns and it's difficult, if not impossible, to get out of doing them.
Example Week:
Mon-45 min run @ 6:30-6:45
Tues-Track workout: 1200m @ 3:36, 1000m @ 3:00, 800m @ 2:20, 600m @ 1:42, 400m @ 66, 200m @ 32, all with 3 min standing/walking rest in between.
Wed-45 min run @ 6:30-6:45
Thurs-Track workout: 4x800m @ 2:20, 3x400m @ 67, 2x200m @ 32, all with 3 min rest in between
Fri-30 min run @ 6:30-6:45
Sat-70 min long run @ 6:30-6:45
Sun-off
Background: Fastest people on the team are 16:00-16:20 for the 5k, 9:45-10:00 for 3200m and 4:30-4:40 for 1600m. Typically average 45 miles a week. First race is next week (we started workouts like above 3 weeks ago) and championships in April. Team has a history of PRing in 1st half of season and burning out in the second half.
Should I do what the rest of the team is doing or do something different? I can't get out of the workouts but I have replaced all of the normal runs with 65 min runs and my long run is 15 miles with Sunday just being 35 min. I do all my normal runs @ 7:00-8:00 but still keep up in the workouts. I've also added in doubles mon-fri of 35 min @ 7:30 and avg 65-80 mpw.
My overall question: Should i keep doing the coaches workouts but do the other runs my way or just do what everyone else does in the schedule above?
