Hello, new to the board so I apologise if this has been discussed ad nauseum. How do you all approach your warm up and cool down miles during a work out?
For example 2 mile Warm Up - 25 minute tempo run - 2 mile cool down
Would you lead your warm up miles directly into the tempo portion of the work out? Or take a quick 2 minute breather? Same with cool down... Do you just immediately lower the pace after the tempo portion or take a quick breather?
Would your approach change if this was a track workout that involved 5x800m or something?
I've always strung the whole thing together when I've done workouts (so immediately into workout after warm up and immediately into cool down after workout), but thought maybe this isn't beneficial. Especially the warm up leading right into the workout. I've tried doing some googling but never found a clear answer.
Thanks for all your insight. Still a little green on this running thing.
