How long would it take to go from a 35 minute 5k to a sub 20 5k if I trained consistently and ate well? Or a better question might be, what time could I get my time down to in 1.5 years?
Some background info is that I am about an 18.5 BMI. Im not very fit right now, I have more of a skinny fat build. However I really want to change that and start working out daily and running daily again too. Last summer I ran a lot, I went from not being able to run for longer than 2 minutes to being able to run 2 miles in 20 minutes and somehow I even ran 3 miles in 29 minutes once. (I wasn’t able to do it again after that) My biggest issue with getting faster back then was that 1. I get a lot of cramps when I run. I tried drinking more water (didn’t help). I tried drinking less water (didn’t help either). I tried cutting certain foods from my diet but nothing could stop me from getting really bad cramps while I run almost every time I
ran. 2. Whenever I ran and reached about the 2 miles mark, my calves would start to hurt really badly and I wouldn’t be able to keep running.
One more thing I’ll mention is that the reason for this question is in 1.5 years is when my senior year will start and so will cross country. I really want to be able to run cross country competively for my final year of high school. My high school and the surrounding high schools are small so the fastest girls run a 5k in 21-23 minutes depending on the difficulty of the course. Although towards the end a few are closer to the 20 minute mark.
I appreciate any information you can give me or even any tips. Thanks!
