I did 16x400 at just under 91 sec average today with 35 secs jogs in between. The workout felt very honest—difficult by the end but never all out effort. Also did this on the roads not track fwiw.
Would this project out to close to my current 5k pace?

Yes, with that short a rest your 5km pace should be at least this if not faster.

No worries on the username. I sure hope you're right on the 5k though! My current PR is a 19:27, and I think I'm poised to smash that!

Thanks for the response. This pace (6:04/mile) would be about 18:49. So you think that is out of reach based on this workout?
Probably not honestly. Most people can do 16x400 or even 20x400 a bit faster than 5k pace, even on short rest. Your recent race tells you where your fitness is at better than a workout. I would aim to improve on the 19:27. You're just setting yourself up for disappointment if you expect to take a huge chunk off at once.
Thanks for being honest. Last 5k was a year ago. Have done a couple marathons and a half since. Doing a ten miler this weekend.
