From my highschool, only 1 other kid besides me ran at the college level, and he was a sprinter.

Right now in my high school graduating class, 4 but if I make the team next year then 5. Two guys went d1(one to a power 5) and two girls went d3. But older and younger members of my team are running or will run in college.
4 from my senior year xc team alone, not counting me. For track, 2-3x as many. Big school with good coaching.
Big school in a city of just under 1 million. Our XC team was unstoppable my senior year. I was the only one to run in college.
Three of us did. I was D1, another ran D2 but probably could have ran D1, the third one went to a community college and flunked out. He was a very talented runner but had no aptitude for school. He definitely would have ran D1.
Sounds like my high school. Five of our top six in XC ran in college. Two in D1, although just XC. Me, in D3 (went to a very good school in New England for academics), could have been a walk-on in D1 . Our best runner went to a JC, flunked out after a year, or maybe just a semester (?). The other guy ran D2 for a year or two.

In the HS I coached at, same thing. Usually 0 - 1 a year. Occasionally more.
Zero. We sucked. Except for a girl who ran major D 1.
My senior year CC team, meaning top 7 plus two alternates, all went on to run in college.
In my senior class there were at least 6 of us. Crazy that I can’t remember for sure, been 20 years.
Pretty big school. Maybe 50 boys in CC.
We have 7 guys and 8 girls competing at the D1 level currently from a team of about 50 guys and 70 girls. I guess that is about 2 guys and girls per year on average but most of the girls were from one class.
Been coaching for almost 3 years. Had 3/4 run in college from the first year the one missed the 600 standard by .5 of a second and then transferred schools, 4/6 the second. This year is going to be harder for us, all the senior girls this year were anemic last year and it has been a slow recovery for them so fingers crossed we can get them in shape to hit standards this spring.
I'm a club coach so only get the self selected distance runners and we really try and make practice fun that way they want to keep running. For example if I give them a grind type workout the next one is fun like sprints and wickets or relays. And we make sure they know why they are doing the hard workouts.
One distance runner became a multiple all american.
A triple jumper qualified for the olympics.
One went to the nfl.
There were others but they dont stand out in my memory.
Of the seven classes I have personal knowledge of starting with the seniors that were there when I was a freshman to the freshmen that were starting when I was a senior, 3 distance runners and about 20 sprinters. I don't know how many of the sprinters in the years behind me that could have run in college actually did. I know there were a couple in the classes ahead of me who had to give it up for football.
Ironically the two fastest kids didn't run track in college, the best got a football scholarship, the second best couldn't go to college because of poor academics and multiple run ins with law enforcement.
From the boy's XC team, 11 of us went on to run in college. (These are guys from my sophomore year through senior year). We had a pretty solid team, ended up getting close to winning states my Senior year.
I think we had one sprinter from our HS team run at the collegiate level and that was it. We had enough talented kids that many more could have run, but there was never any encouragement from our high school coaches or athletic department to pursue the next level. There were a few coaches that encouraged the boys to do so, but I never had a single high school coach ask me if I wanted to run in college.
It's made me handle things differently for the kids I coach. I think this year our program has 7 distance runners , 4 sprinter/jumpers, and 1 thrower competing in college. The high school I coach at is much bigger on encouraging kids to try collegiate athletics than where I attended high school. We probably have 15-20 girls continue competing at the collegiate level with each graduating class.

One girl who graduated 2 years before me ran DII. I ran DI (walked on but earned scholarship by my sophomore year). One guy who graduated with me was recruited to the same DI school where I ran, but he transferred to a DII school after his first year. He was a sprinter/high jumper. I know a few girls in graduating classes 4+ years after me went on to run DI. I went to a really small school with only about 100 in my graduating class, so maybe considering the size of my school those numbers aren’t so bad.
