I Agree.
The interesting part is so many people are
Training super hard and Run their first or 2nd marathon and give the shoes all the credit. If you have run 6-8 solid marathons in good weather and great fitness you are not PRing Massively because of these shoes.. I went from 3:20
to sub 2:30 “without” the shoes, and I take all the credit. The shoes helped knock off about 60 seconds now that I’m under 2:30, but again my fitness is still improving so I’m not ready to give them that much of the credit. I honestly feel bad for people who really think the shoes are helping them that much.
Nobody who is running in these shoes wants to give them all the credit for their improvements. Like you, they all want to acknowledge that the shoes help some without conceding that they help a lot. You have no idea how much the shoes have helped you or help others. In the meantime, I'll trust the research on energy return; the recent history of annual sub-2:10 runners and of U.S. Olympic-trials qualifiers; and the anecdotes of people like you who know that the shoes are a big part of their success (even if you don't want to say so). Together, research, statistics/history, and anecdote combine to tell a pretty compelling story to anybody willing to pay attention.
