I'm a 17 year old runner. I'm 6'0'' and 135. I'm looking for serious answers to a few questions that deal with Arthur Lydiard's program. I know that it is pretty much a strictly long distance program, and I feel that that's what im best suited for, however i need to be able to run fast in the 200-400 indoors this year. I do however want to be able to move up to the 800 and the mile at some point this year, and put my speed to good use. I have run 51 in the 400 and sub 23 in the 200. I also ran 2:03 for the 800 in a year previous to those times.
So my questions are:
1. Will following Lydiards program retard my speed, if I stop ascending either at the 100 mile week, or more realistically the 78 mile week?
2. Lydiard stated that Peter Snell was the slowest runner in his 800m Olympic final, this will not be the case for me in most of my races, will the Lydiard Program still be a good idea for me?
3. Will I be able to drop a second to a second and a half over 400m indoors after training for XC and using Lydiard, even though I did not use any sort of base trainign to run a 51 this year?
Thank you very much in advance.
