Just ordered shoes. Online. From Amazon.
(ordered the older version to save $50. jogging in crappy winter weather)
White/grey version was $99
Blue version was $120
Black version was $130
Why does the color of the shoe make a difference in the price?
Especially of an older model?
The most reasonable answer is: demand. Some colors don't sell well and thus get marked down to move more product.
However, with Amazon, all rules are off. I hate shopping for shoes there. Nothing makes sense, prices are all over the place, probably just as likely to get shipped a fake chinese knockoff instead of what you ordered.
Yeah Amazon makes no sense. Lots of fakes and the pricing varies greatly between colors. Go try your luck at Marshalls, Ross, or Burlington. Burlington right now has Pegasus 35s for like$40, and they've also been having Adidas Bostons for like$30 recently.
They come from a variety of locations across the country that want to move their product.
Sometimes it will be a scenario like:
Some podunk outdoors outfitter or running store has a few sizes of one older pair of shoes. They don't want to take up space on their shelf where they could put a new shoe that is available in all sizes with a shoe that they hope Cinderella will come in to buy. If they can sell it online and clear out their inventory they are willing to take lower profit margin.
Buying the previous year's model in the cheapest color available is the way to go! That's why I have some purple shoes...
You should think of Amazon less like an online Walmart and more like an online marketplace that is similar to an eBay: when you look at items you are not just getting one price from one seller, but prices on items (and item variations, such as color) from a number of different sellers.
Some SKUs were bought super cheap by the seller (like someone else mentioned, maybe a color way didn't sell well) and are, therefore, listed at a lower price on the Amazon marketplace. They could also just be flat out fakes that are listed at a lower price.
I usually stick to reputable websites (Road Runner, Runner's Warehouse) when I'm not buying directly from the manufacturer. Amazon can be too much of a sh*t show with fakes.
There could easily be something in amazon's code that increases the price as the supply goes down. So the blue and black versions were running low in stock, so their prices went up. There were a bunch of white/grey ones left and they didn't want to be stuck with all of that inventory, so those ones were cheaper.
