Pretty good for an early-season effort
Not sure if she ran the 600 also
She look good, slowed a little bit at the Finish, and also had a little trouble getting out at the start, probably cuz a lot of the other girls went out way faster than they can actually sustain
Anyway good for us number 1 by 5 Seconds
Anyone know what else is going on on the girls indoor track season schedule wise?
What meets are coming up? I guess Millrose
Saratoga Springs cross country team that won nxn dominated the 3K
I think they went top 4
And they mentioned that Claire Walters has a u.s. number 1 3K 938
Tuohy 2:49.4 1k at ocean breeze

Who says she has no speed
-
Is that considered fast?
That's just a 2:14 800m + a 35 200m. -

Solid effort for sure. But I wouldn’t say this proves or doesn’t prove she has speed. It’s just a touch faster than her mile PR pace. -
She takes 4th in the 600 with 1:37, winner ran 1:35... discuss
-
Saratoga with 3 under 10 minutes in 3k...oh my

I think she is what we thought she was. An absolute aerobic beast who has pretty solid but not spectacular speed. Honestly I don’t read much into these races and do think it’s good for her to be racing other distances and getting beat. -
Was she expected to win the 600? She's a distance runner and the 600 is still within range of a sprint distance. A great distance runner is able to maintain a fast pace over a long distance. The only question is whether she has a good kick for a distance runner, which I think she has.

It's also the start of the season. Maybe if she competes in the 1000 and 600 at state she will run a little faster, maybe breaking her PRs of 2:47 and 1:35. Her PRs from 10th grade, her breakout year, were 2:49 and 1:37 so she's doing pretty well to be right on par with those.

No I don't think she was expected to win the 600
It's good that she competed in it
Anyone know if she's going to run any pro races in the indoor season? -
#13 all time in the mile today - 4 mins 44.74 seconds by Juliette Whitaker. 2nd place ran 5:05.93. Whitaker ran Footlocker nationals in December.

Yeah it's a pretty good time. Still early in the season
I guess you could think of it as 34 200 meter pace, right?
Anyone know what the top women 5K 10K Runners can finish in. What would be a last good 400 meter kick for a woman. Can they close in 60. Didn't Mo Farah close in about 50. What would that be for a woman like a 59 -

Cain's PR if I recall in the 600m was 1:37. Yet she set the 800m national record and the 1000m junior world record. Distances matter. Mu for example sets the record in the 600m yet gets beat in the 800m. I don't quite understand what people mean when they say Tuohy is not fast. Relative to what? If they mean she is not a sprinter, well the of course. No one claims that she is a sprinter. But she has plenty of closing speed in the longer distance especially if her relay history tells us anything. The real question is whether she is fast for a miler/distance runner. In that case she sure is.

Her PR is 2:47.8. She ran that in grade 9.

College runners in time trial setting probably around 66, if a championship race maybe 62-64. Shelby 59-62. Obiri closed in around 58 at worlds. -

i don't know if that is really cain's pr, but if it is, she didn't run it much. with her 800m time, she was likely to have somewhere around 1:27 ability for the indoor 600. -
According to Milesplit that her high school 600m PR.

Ok. But whatever her 800 pr is, her en route 600 for that race was obviously faster than 1:37. -
Does anyone know what distance Mary Cain was primarily focused on when she first turned professional out of high school
She obviously had grade 800m 1 mile and 2-mile times
What were they primarily targeting as her main events
In retrospect should she have focused on becoming an 800-meter Runner
And I see now she's running a lot of distance races like Four Mile Road races. Isn't she actually better at shorter distances
