I am a high school junior looking to specialize in the 2 mile, and am wondering if my weekly 2 mile long run is a bit excessive. I've heard that beyond 90 minutes your body learns to use fat instead of carbs for fuel, but the 2 mile obviously isn't long enough for the to occur. I was thinking just a 90 minute long run might make more sense (I run around 7:00 pace for long runs) but I am looking to do whatever it takes to optimize performance.
