The last time I raced cross country, I tasted blood, with a hint of metallic flavor, at the end of my vigorous warm up.
I was just wondering if there is a term for this phenomenon and whether it indicated if my body was going towards an anaerobic state.
If that isn't the case, then what physiological state would produce that kind of symptom? I'd like to know if it was detrimental, or possibly even beneficial, to be in that state before a 5k race.
For what it's worth, I ran the 5k decently well. Nothing to brag about, but not disappointing at all. My pace faltered the last 800m as I was intent on saving energy for a late kick, but decided to forgo that later.
