Of course excess fat will slow someone down. I am curious to how much though. Lets say a perfectly healthy man who runs a 4:30 mile gains 2 pounds of fat from excess eating. Would he really be slowed down that much?

How much what do fat slow people down ?
If the fat gathers directly under their heel then it will bounce their foot upward just like the Nike Fly thing.
You can get a general idea here:

I plugged in a few numbers and dropping from 180lbs to 170lbs with current body fat at 18%, the marathon mile pace dropped 12 seconds. For a 5k it dropped 6 seconds per mile.
Carry 2 lbs of weight on your hips, well-secured, next interval workout. You’ll lose some time. Not much but some. Maybe 4:31-4:32.
Not that much. Rono ran 27:30? with a beer gut.
I am fat and slow. I can easily down two pizzas.
Does that answer your question?
