WOW, can’t wait to see what is to come, and if he will include more Marathon pace work.
151 miles alone is amazing, but with all that climbing. That’s just so much mileage. His ability to recover between runs is remarkable.

Hard to even eat enough to do that week. ~24,000 calories burned running plus an additional ~12,000 for base metabolism. ?? 5400 calories per day.
About 20 Delissio Pepperoni Pizzas for the week. 23 if he wasn't sponsored and had to work 40hrs a week.

I really am interested in how he will do at the trials. Does anyone know how fully invested he is towards it? It seems like he is going for it as his main focus for now, but I may be wrong.
If he is successful, he may end up changing the game.

The point of that event was to get records while promoting Hoka and their new shoe. When it became apparent that a 100k record wasn't going to happen, it was more important to his sponsor that he get the 50 mile record than have a competitive race for 100k. Of course you know that already. You're just being a jerk.
So you're sure he would have beat that 60mpw japanese in a 100k. Okay.

I have a hard time believing the trials are his main goal if he's doing this much technical trail running. That's not a knock on him or his training, it's just the reality of road racing at the highest level. Who's going to be more prepared for a fast marathon? The guy doing 20 on the roads with 10 at marathon pace, or the guy running 8:50 miles up and down a 13% grade rocky slant?
I think he's hedging his bets. This type of training will allow him to maintain the fitness he needs for a strong showing at the trials, but ultimately it won't detract from his bread and butter, which is the ultra distances.

I’m 100% certain he wouldn’t have won. He’s a time trialist and sucks against competition on any surface. No one outside of Americans cares about 50 miles.
Not much quality. Is the flat 20 miles at 6:17 pace supposed to be a quality day? Might do well for ultras, but he's got to start doing more quality work if he wants to do anything at the marathon trials. Last year he spent several weeks doing faster workouts to get ready for the half and barely ran a time that puts him in the top 30 Americans list for half marathon. 30th would still be pretty good at the trials, but the people saying he'll be top 10 are dreaming.

Yamauchi isn't even a pro, he has a full-time job.
Walms is a legend and the mass of hj spitting hate on LRC will have their butt hurted after trials.
Funny when people on here say 'nobody cares about Walmsley' or 'he's a joke' etc... LOL he is one of the highest paid runners in the US. Say what you want about him but obviously people do care as he is legit famous and seems to be pretty smart about what hes doing.
I don't expect he's going to place at the trials but he will be one of the most talked about. But I think he will have strong showing at Comrades.
The mileage is high but the amount of quality lacks in his training in my opinion.
20 mi at 6:17 pace is nothing impressive for a 1:04 runner. I am 1:15 runner and I am doing long runs of 17 miles at 6:20 pace and they are just moderate pace.
Also running hills every day is not the best way to train as it just impairs super compensation unless you are going extremely slow.
