Long have I awaited the glorious day when a Pole finally wins Foot Locker.

We can only hope that the Lithuanians will soon have their day too.

Dudek has said she was just a club runner in Poland and they were mostly just playing around. It was only when she moved to the US for her sophomore year that she started training seriously. She failed to qualify for NXN or FLN last year and then goes on to win the Brooks PR mile, the Euro U20 3000, and now FLN. Getting better fast.

Some credit has to be given to the program at her high school. They’ve churned out D1 runners for 30+ years, including last year’s Brooks PR champ Nick Foster. A super experienced head coach, a former D1 stud who often runs with the girls, and a culture of excellence was the right choice for her!

...and now she is going to Stanford.

Talk about a crazy 12 months.

Yes, +1 to this. They have been developing outstanding runners since around 1950. When I went to school (35 yrs ago) they had the 3200m State winner (Tim Fraleigh -- who was a junior) and he won the XC State title as a senior, then a different guy won the 1600m State title the following year (Guy Pace -- was a senior). Fraleigh had mono and did not repeat.

They have won SIX state titles in DIV 1 (the biggest), tied for the most of the big schools.

6 – Ann Arbor Pioneer (1987, 1990, 1993, 1994, 2008, 2017)

6 – Detroit Catholic Central (1983, 1984, 1989, 2001, 2009, 2010)

6 – Ypsilanti (1941, 1943, 1945, 1946, 1947, 1960)

Seems like every 3-5 years they have another star. Foster was the brightest one they have had in a while, maybe EVER.

In the long run...

No debate on the ability of the current AP coach to produce great high school results.

Lots of speed intervals can produce success with young athletes in high school. Though this protocol is not in the best interest of the athletes’ long term development potential beyond high school.
