This was the best field she's faced so far, she raced kind of stupid because of it. It's a good lesson for her going forward.
That Ewert girl is tough! Shows up on the big stages, never has a bad race.
Huge congratulations to her. Winning three times is historic and winning with all the pressure on her made it even tougher. She earned it.

Idk if she raced stupidly or if she was extremely anxious for this race. We saw Sarah baxter buckle under the same pressure her senior year.
She went out conservatively on a rainy, muddy course. I’d say that was a smart tactic.
The field was just incredibly strong compared to years past.
Nah she's just feeling the pressure of having to win every race
She still pulled it out like a champion... She's the goat three straight years undefeated
The course was also rained out. A wet course with standing water can equalize the race. Tuohy is a tough runner.
Yeah it would have been interesting if she ran with the pack. And then try to pull away with like a mile to go. But she was able to hang on against some good runners in Crazy conditions

Exactly. Hopefully she can relax for a while and enjoy her senior year.
Exactly. The amount ofpressure on her was immense, the conditions were not ideal, and she pulled it off anyway. Hat's off to her. There is a reason no one has ever done it before.
Girls results from the last 3 years (trying to speed rate without the official speed ratings). Suffice to say, 2019 ran a similar speed to 2017. Tuohy ran 16:44 in 2017, 16:37 in 2018, and 17:18 this year. Hats off to her for this run, but she is headed in the wrong direction. This will probably only be speed rated slightly higher than 160. It may be her worst speed rating all year.
2017—-
10th- 17:58.9
25th- 18:16.8
50th- 18:45.6
75th- 19:07.1
100th-19:23.6
125th- 19:46.4
150th- 20:06.4
175th- 20:39.4
2018—
10th 17:28.5
25th 17:41.1
50th 18:05.7
75th 18:27.1
100th 18:46.0
125th 19:04.1
150th 19:23.4
175th 19:52.6
2019——-
10th-17:50.2
25th- 18:16.9
50th- 18:45.3
75th-19:00.8
100th-19:24.8
125th- 19:40.7
150th- 20:01.7
175th- 20:29.5
And..she won. Nothing to overanalyze. Couple the conditions, the setting, the pressure and the competition and its a great accomplishment. Really elite female high school distance runners never seem to satisfy anyone. They are either overtrained or undertrained, overweight or underweight, peaking or plateauing, etc. Sometimes a race is just a race. And a win is a win.
Guessing they really held back on training to have her get ready for Olympic Trials.
That's the thing. Just the amount of contradictory advice and information her coach must be getting. "Be careful of burnout." "Think about the future." "Don't overtrain." "Don't run too many miles." Maybe some if this is correct, but it will take you for a spin.

With all due respect, just shut up.
Girls do not progress the same way boys do. Their bodies continue to change. We cannot expect girls to progress year after year while they undergo their last of their puberty from 17-19. Let them grow in peace and take it from there.
She just capped an undefeated three years as a HS girl and won a national race against an insanely strong field. She just achieved something no boy or girl has ever done before her. She’s doing just fine.
This type of thinking and expectations of getting ‘progressively’ faster, year after year, is what leads to burnout and fatigue in many of our promising women runners. Let them grow in peace.
Well hopefully we witness the end of all the pointless predictions about her future. We will just have to wait and see.

Why is there so much pressure on her compared to other runners? Just about anyone is nervous before a big race. Is she more sensitive?

??
You already know the answer to that. Because of all the attention that was on her and if she could three-peat. No other runner in that field faced the same kind of pressure and attention. No one had done it before either; 1 runner almost did and barely missed it.
You are joking right?
The one thing that bothers me is that in an interview she said she reads social media about herself. That's dangerous. Someone needs to tell her not to do that. Could you imagine a young athlete reading some of the commentary on here?
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
