Is Bell's Two Hearted Ale the Best U.S. Beer?

I actually prefer their Oberon, that little Brewery in Kalamazoo knows what's up.

Two-Hearted really is a great beer. Here in Texas, Deep Ellum makes 2 really fine beers: Dallas Blonde and Deep Ellum IPA. Stone Brewing is also really great. But for me, the best beer in the nation is Pliny the Elder, from Russian River Brewing. It is a double IPA.

Two Hearted would be hands down the best beer in the game if it weren't for a little drink called 90 minute IPA

Yeah, I also like Dogfish Head. But not so much their 90-Minute IPA- that is a heavy drink, but a good one, but you can have one and that's it. Have you ever had the 120-Minute? Holy cow! But not released very often.

Given the price point, availability, and balanced profile... it is an AWESOME "go-to IPA." I would consider it on-par with Jai Alai as "best" in that category.

I would, however, choose about 100 beers before Two Hearted as "overall best."

At this stage in the micro brew game, who the f knows what is really the best beer in the US. I have a growler filling place in my neighborhood that is constantly rotating taps with special barrels from micro brews across the US. The stuff is clearly superior to most anything you can buy in the store that is mass produced. So, I think you would at least need some different divisions if you are going to try to name the best US beer.

I first fell for the micro brew thing back in the early 90s when I had Great Lakes Brewery's Dortmunder Gold. Over 25 years later, I ran into some when visiting family back east. After having had a few hundred different micro brew over the years, I was afraid that Dortmunder wouldn't hold up after all these years. It was still excellent even though Great Lakes has significantly upped production over the years.

I used to really like Bell's (still do just dont drink it often anymore) but I find that just about everything that Toppling Goliath Brewing makes is outstanding so I tend to drink that more often than anything else.

I thought Two Hearted was great when I first had it (maybe 2012). Now I think it's pretty good, but there are a fair amount of IPA's that are better. So, no, Two Hearted is definitely not best.

You need to go to Vermont! There are so many amazing beers there. I don't understand why it seems like no one can make beers nearly as good as they do in Vermont, but that's how it seems. Most breweries probably sell themselves short on quality to try to make a profit, but they have to keep their business open somehow.

Not even close. The beer game has evolved rapidly and brewers all over are doing far more creative and tastier stuff all over the country. Bell‘s is an upgrade from run of the mill beer for sure, but the leaders are:

Weldwerks, Imprint, Trillium, Tree House, Other Half, Firestone Walker, The Veil, Mikerphone, Moksa, American Solera, Southern Grist and many more.

As others have said, Two Hearted is a solid IPA, but its rating on the app (3.97) doesn't put it anywhere near the top.

Personally, I've had 636 different IPAs, and it looks like Bell is somewhere around 400th. There's a lot of amazing stuff out there. Love the Toppling Goliath mention above. Bare Bottle in SF in amazing, as is Revision in Reno.

New England breweries have had the IPA game on lock for the last 5+ years hence why every brewery is making New England style IPAs...I got into craft just as the heavy hitters were taking off in NE. Hill Farmstead / Trillium / Treehouse/ alchemist

It’s really difficult to beat those 4 in terms of IPAs but there are small breweries all over the country now capable of making quality beers.

I live in DMV area but my wife’s family lives in PA, I always make a stop at Tired Hands on my way home.

So no bells is not the best by a long shot but as others have said it’s a solid shelf beer and I appreciate that they can.

Outside the us Cantillion is probably the best. I also enjoy a good Mikkeller beer

A lot of this is going to be regional. I am in MN and I have never seen any of those breweries you mentioned.
