I am a collegiate athlete and wanting to use the 4% for 10k race on the track in the outdoor season. However we are not a Nike school, so I'm trying to figure out how to dye the shoe black so I may be able to use it for the event. Has anyone done this or have ideas?

I'd not try to do anything like "dying" - for the risk of screwing up the foam. I'd try some screen printing ink - should be easy to find - and paint it on with a brush - then heat it with a hair dryer (not too hot) to cure it. You should keep the breatheability and cover it up nice without it looking like you stepped in black poop. It might take a few coats.
I am around a Nike school, and the jumpers here have been doctoring non-Nike shoes in various way for years, and it always seems to work and nobody complains.

Yes it does. At many schools it means you cannot wear any other brand. This is not an argument. I am at one of those schools.
It most certainly does if the school is under contract. Why is this so difficult for you to understand?
You can ask your athletic director if you can wear them. They will make exceptions sometimes if you don't feel comfortable in the school sponsored gear

This is about shoes.
Also - stuff the shoes with paper and take the laces out so the ink doesn't go through on to the insides and maybe tape off the midsole so you get a nice clean line. Get some different laces too to really hide the original identity. If you're at an Adidas school, you could even fake a 3 stripes on the sides for fun.
You can get Speedball screen printing ink at a Michaels or your local art or print store if any of those still exist

I am at an Adidas school and a couple of other guys on the team also recently got pairs of 4% so we are all going to try and throw an Adidas symbol on them too. Thanks for all of the ideas guys!

It's easy for me to understand. I asked a yes-or-no question because I did not know the answer and have never heard of that being the case (and expressed that I thought it was ridiculous).
Another idea - use can get printing ink in "opaque white" and it should cover anything, and you wouldn't have to do black. Also, probably use one of those sponge brushes to put it on, a regular one might gum up or take a million coats. And make sure to heat cure it or it will wash off.
It's not ridiculous if the shoe company is giving the school's programs tons of gear and shoes and then requires in the contract for all of that hundreds of thousands of dollars in gear - that the athletes wear the brand and not a competitor. I know nobody ever likes to admit defeat or even that they didn't know how things work, but this is incredibly normal at most large school whether or not you knew about it before.
The tough spot is that Nike makes the Vaporfly, and people want that thing bad for 10ks now. In which case, this kind of camouflage is necessary. Adidas and UnderArmour (the brands that seem to sponsor almost all the other schools) need to get it together quick
I know taking 4% off a 32 min 10k is almost a minute so I would personally risk that...
