It's not ridiculous if the shoe company is giving the school's programs tons of gear and shoes and then requires in the contract for all of that hundreds of thousands of dollars in gear - that the athletes wear the brand and not a competitor. I know nobody ever likes to admit defeat or even that they didn't know how things work, but this is incredibly normal at most large school whether or not you knew about it before.
The tough spot is that Nike makes the Vaporfly, and people want that thing bad for 10ks now. In which case, this kind of camouflage is necessary. Adidas and UnderArmour (the brands that seem to sponsor almost all the other schools) need to get it together quick
