Title says it all. How does Geiger get so much talent yet fail to develop the majority of the athletes? I read on here a few years ago it was referred to as the "graveyard for footlocker finalists".

He's old as dirt doesn't get training anymore and runs his kids into the ground
There have been 38 NCAA XC Championships that have included both men and women. Those meets have included the Wolfpack women 33 times and the Wolfpack men 30 times. Take a look at history and tell me what Universities can match that record. Next, tell me which members of that Uber elite list did it with less blue chip recruits.
but how often were they top 15? always seem to be mid-tier at best at ncaa's
speaking more to the men in this. the women seem to get more top 10s. this is purely scientific from my head
Guess the homework assignment was too hard, but I'll play along. However, I am going to use some more data instead of going "scientific from my head". In those same 38 years, the Wolfpack women have finished top-15 25 times and top-10 14 times, while the Wolfpack men have finished top-15 15 times and top-10 9 times. Let's now repeat the same exercise and provide me the list of schools that have a better record - with less talent.
My point is that talented athletes "succeed" and "fail" at every institution for a variety of reasons. While it is abundantly clear that all coaches are not created equal, I believe you will find an strong correlation between consistent high level success and consistent high level talent. Bashing a respected coach with a clear record of success, because you or someone you know didn't live up to their potential (for whatever reason) is unwarranted.
Homework assignment: How many teams dump all their scholarships into distance?
Do the math for me and then come back. Your logic is very flawed, conveys incompetence and shows that you are clearly an NC State graduate. Any competent human knows that a power 5 program putting all their resources into distance should be top 15, at a MINIMUM, every year. Making it most years is the bar? Seriously? Geiger is the only guy who has been at a place for that long currently coaching at a power 5 university.

And not only that, but the whole poor-mouthing everyone that has ever gone there as untalented is total BS. They have a boatload of talent walk through that locker room. At one point, I was asking myself what the draw was because they were getting really decent west coast kids to go there. I could see Duke, or NC, but NC State? So lets also not act like they were happy to lock in a 9:25 kid on a good day every other year.
A UNC grad here from the 1980s when Rollie started. Admired the team and the coach. An honest guy and most of the team were solid people.
We guessed that they ran 2x as many miles as we did, although that may be a function of UNC as much as NC state. They ran longer every day than we would run on a long day. Admired them greatly, particularly as NC state doesn't have great surrounding areas to train.
Of course, neither does the immediate areas around Chapel Hill.
Been doing it for far too long, has developed a blind spot that prevents seeing different angles to keep things fresh. See also: Gags post-Farm Team.

And would you be willing to post your resume??
I'm certain you have a lot to be proud of when it comes to accomplishments.
No need to go on the attack, Francis.
Just answering the question, I didn't bring this up. And no, I'm not a Craig Engels buddy or fan, either. I didn't imply his resume is anything less than stellar, either. This happens to almost every and any brilliant performer at the end of a long career.
