NCAA XC Championships Livestream

As a parent of cross country athlete I think the only ones interested in watching the streams are teammates, coaches, parents, and maybe some other relatives. Do what other broke college athletes do and get together with teammates somewhere with a large screen tv and use one account so many can watch it. Either get everyone to chip in for a one month subscription or use an account someone such as a parent or coach already has that is willing to give you access to for the race. It might be more fun to ridicule the poor commentary if you are with a group of friends.

IMHO it should be free. I understand paying for premium content like enhanced commentary or maybe rankings past 1st 10 individuals or athlete comparison but paying to watch a college race is ridiculous and bad for our sport.

From what I have heard though, Flotrack will reach out and stamp "copyright infringement" on anyone's videos from the races if they are uploaded on Youtube, including if the videos were taken from personal cellphones.

Fortunately, the live results website is pretty darn good - 2k, 4k, and 6k splits for the women's race; 3k, 5k, 8k, 10k splits for the men's race. It was the same one used for the NE, Great Lakes, and South regions, and they instantaneously update times and scores once the markers cross the mat. It's viewable now at the link below.

I watched the free 5 or so minutes of the final minutes of the Great Lakes Regional womens race on Youtube that Flotrack . I did not watch the stream live. I have complained in the past here about Flotrack moving the camera off the finish line to showing just the winner walking around after the race. It is a team sport and I want to see more than just the first few runners cross the finish line. I am not sure how long Flotrack kept the camera on the finish line for the live stream but was happy to see the improvement. I hate seeing races behind paywalls and think the financial model of Flotrack is doomed to fail once the investors bail because there are too few interested in the sport other than mostly parents and coaches. They have proved this in my mind by putting more content behind their paywall such as interviews and some of their other non-race videos. The quality of the material not behind a paywall does not convince me they can produce a quality product worth the monthly fee they charge.

After having Flotrack takedown notice on my Youtube account during a prior season I now only share videos on Facebook with some parents, coaches, and athletes when Flotrack is providing video coverage. I kept the videos on Facebook over the weekend and deleted them before Monday assuming any friend had time to view them. A parent of a runner I know has taken Flotrack videos and posted the whole video of their collegiate races on their Facebook page and shared with friends.

I don’t think asked for suggestions on how to improve his social life. Believe me, college students already know how to share user logins and access someone else’s account.
