Interesting. I'd be more upset with the decision if programs and universities always acted in the best interest of its student-athletes, which clearly they do not, so I find it hard to have sympathy for his coach here.

Since the team didn't qualify, Do we know if they replaced him?
I've got no problem with it as long as the coach is fine with it. I'd much rather run in the NCAA meet than the European U23 meet but i get that he's European and what not.
As an International who has competed at NCAA XC and Euro XC I think this a silly decision. If he wants to make an impact an Euro XC wait until he’s a Senior. NCAA XC is a fantastic opportunity that majority of us would kill to compete in again. Also respect the opportunity your school is giving you. They pay the bills so be respectful so they should be your first priority!

He is a senior - senior in college.
Another example of colleges recruiting foreigners and screwing an American kid out of a scholarship. Shameful. (Alabama, Middle Tennessee, Tulsa).
