"At one workout in March 2008, when Yoder Begley said she was mourning the recent death of her dog, Salazar told her she was bringing down the rest of the team. The next month, Yoder Begley said Salazar told her that her laugh was annoying him and other runners. Then, she said, he asked her to sign a contract stating that she would not befriend other athletes on the team. Other Oregon project athletes were not asked to sign the contract, as she was led to believe they would."
Matthew Futterman has more on Begley, who details being ridiculed for her weight during her time with the NOP.

Wow, not surprised though. Nike is a terrible company and thankfully the NOP is gone.
-
Wow Alberto really thought of everything. The man with the master plan.
-
Contract not to befriend the people you are around all the time? I’d love to see how this was written up.
-
LOL...just wait. Someone else will come out of the wood work with more weird antics from Alberto.
-
Saladbar must have been a joy as a team mate at Oregon.
-
Okay, just stop.
-
Salazar has been a horrible human being for decades. People still line up to stroke him and attack his detractors.

Without Salazar Amy would have NEVER made the Olympics. How ungrateful!

you do wonder when he got so weird. i think he was pretty well-liked on the gbtc when he ran with them as a kid.

Where are the Alberto lovers now? How you going to spin this one?

I'm here. There's nothing to spin. This girl had a distracting laugh, and she was distracting as well. We all know her teammates' performances would have been a lot worse had she befriended them as well. -
Why would anyone need to laugh during training anyway?

If someone asked you to sign a contact identifying who could, and could not, be your friend, would you ever stop laughing? -

"Steve Magness just asked me on a date!"
"Hahahahaa" -
dude made a scuba mask with crystals to stimulate altitude training and rubbed his legs with racehorse lotion while in college.

This is just silly at this point. My high school coach made me run an extra lap when I was late one day. NY Times hit me up for the scoop -

We were all expected to laugh during Mary's daily weigh-in. -
There was nothing irritating about her laugh. Salazar had the weight complex here. It didn't matter what Yoder Begley was doing, or indeed what her actual weight was (it was 112, low for her, at one point he attacked her for it), and she performed really well until the achilles problems. Salazar is sick the way he treated her with the constant focus on the weight, the claims about her laugh, getting her a contract not to befriend anyone on the team, and with false claims that Goucher didn't want her to be her roommate in 2008 at the Olympics, and that Yoder-Begley didn't want Goucher as a roommate. That is twisted stuff.
