i run 90% of mileage through grass and trails im wondering how much shoes matter, they all feel pretty much the same to me unless the sole is completely worn down. when should I replace them?

keep them until theyre completely busted. you dont really need any cushiony shoe for soft surfaces. running in regular sneakers will make your ankles and feet stronger
I run on grass/dirt all the time with regular trainers. Unless you're trying to do some harder efforts, it won't really matter. Even than, just be aware of where your landing and it doesn't really matter. Maybe it will make you a few seconds slower per x distance, but that doesn't really matter.
Yeah I will say that's one thing I've noticed about all these shoes with the fancy new midsoles. The differences are obvious on pavement, but once you take them off road, they all feel the same.
My legs feel better with less shoe on grass or trails, like spikeless XC shoes.
