before sectionals i was doing crazy stuff, there were two days where i hit over 15mi. i had a pretty mediocre race. the two weeks leading up to state i averaged ~30mi with a few tempos. i bombed state and ran 1:20 slower than what i did earlier in the year on the same course. after mile two i was just trying to finish the race. i couldnt go any faster, my muscles were tight.
what should i do? my fitness has noticeably decreased over the past three weeks. i had better performances when training through races but when i taper my performances go down the drain.
