An older article evaluating the implications of the Vaporfly. Some good points.

Probably true
If Kimetto ran 2:02 in "normal shoes", it means that he would run 1:59 in Nike 4%?
Without doping and trampoline clown shoes he is a 2:50 runner.

Exactly.
Alternatively was Kimetto a 2:04 runner without Adidas "Boost"? Was he really a 2:10 runner barefoot? etc ;-)
He ran 2:03:05 in London 2016 before the creation of the Vaporfly. I honestly believe that he'd still be sub 2:02 by the time he set his WR based on his previous progression. Think about it. Mechanical assistance or not, Kipchoge got a good idea of what it feels to run 2 hour marathon pace at Breaking2. It's not that hard to believe his 2:01:39 was legit after that time trial. The body does wonders when you get past the mental barriers.

Never before, never again after ... what was up with those insoles ? Was this the beginnings of the 4% ? Does anyone have any idea on the who/what/where on the floating insoles.? Has anyone else seen or experienced any other issues with insoles that just slipped out from the the bottom of your race flat ..?

He ran that race in Vaporfly prototypes, with the upper of the Streak 6. His best time without a Vaporfly midsole is 2:04'.
https://images.app.goo.gl/326H9AYjVHxRYwxQ9Well if Kipchoge is only a 2:04 guy, that means the rest of the top guys, minus Bekele, are a bunch of 2:05-2:06 guys.
how old do we think Kipchoge is?
his bio says 34 but his face says 42.

Give me a break. In the old days guys used to run in shoes that would be laughable by today’s available models. Time goes on. What’s he gonna say next, today’s cars are faster and better than those in the past too!?

Like he said though, no one argues whether Bekele is faster than Bannister.

How come the uniform in your reference pic is black while the ORIGINAL picture of his race with the bad insoles is blue?
You definitely have a lousy way distorting things.
The race with the bad insoles was Berlin 2015. 2;04'
The picture is from London 2016, where he ran 2:03'05“ and some people argue he did it without the advantage of Vaporflies. The picture shows he was using a Vaporfly prototype, notice the midsole.
I'm not arguing Kipchoge's ceiling is 2:04', and neither is Tucker, btw. I just showed proof that all times under 2:04' he's run have been on some version of the Vaporfly.
Everyone can reach their own conclusions. We have race evidence and several studies that show improvements of minutes.
Nobody is trying to compare Kipchoge's times to Bikila's. The point Tucker makes is you can't compare them to: a) anyone from 4 years ago, and b) people today non running in similar shoes.
