The biggest shock at the Canadian Champs at the Scotiabank Toronto Marathon was Trevor Hofbauer running 2:09:25 to win the Canadian title. NOTHING this guy had done indicated he was a 2:09 marathoner.
His marathon PR before today was 2:16:48, his 10k pr 29:24, and half marathon 1:04:30 according to the IAAF.
before today Hofbauer was most known for celebratin like mad while running 2:18 to win the Canadian Champs (and costing himself a $1,250) time bonus in 2017.

He ran 1:06:29 and 29:58 in his tune-up races.
Is this one of the biggest rags to riches stories? Anyone know anything about him?
All I can find is he quit training with a watch:
