I started running in my 30s and ran a 4:15 mile as a 230 lb powerlifter with a completely detached hamstring, a dislocated hip, a stress fracture in my foot, and a pelvic fracture. It can be done. If someone with muscles says they ran a certain mile time, you must believe them. Entering races or legitimately documenting the times is for losers.
Tall people usually look like they are running a lot slower than they are on video. Even sub 5 pace looks like a jog.

My thoughts at first. It doesn't look like he is running that fast.
Since he ran a verified sub 4 hour marathon at that size, I have no problem believing he has enough cardio to run sub 6 minutes at 1/26th the distance given how obviously fit and athletic he is and his past as a ranger.
His watched showed 5:38.53 for 1600m which is slightly over a 5:40 Mile and he's young. I'm 190+ and in my 50s and ran an FAT 5:37 Mile this year so yeah I'd believe this. I can tell you taller people also look slower because of their longer turn over but the watch doesn't lie.

He's not tall. He's average height.
If you pause the video at 1:20 and change the playback to .25 you can count his steps for ten seconds. I got 28 which would be around a 168 cadence right? I know this isn't super scientific and he could have changed his pace at some point but I don't think I have ever ran a sub 6 minute mile with a cadence under 175 and I'm slightly taller than him.

Don't know about the 5:35 mile, but there are many thousands of guys bigger than him who have run marathons faster. Only on letsrun is a 215 lb guy considered very big.
And 5:35 doesn't sound that special, but that's faster than me. I've run a 6 minute mile and a
Not sure why this guy should be happy with a 5:35 mile.
I ran that fast as a freaking 6th grader.
I did this as a little 10-year-old kid with very little training and I was definitely NOT an athlete by any means. But this guy is a grown-ass man who portrays himself as an "athlete". Seriously, get back with us when you can at least break 4:30. I mean, Jesus F Christ!

(forgot you can't use the less-than sign on letsrun)
... less than 23 minute 5k at 255 lbs. 25 seconds faster at 40 lbs lighter doesn't sound that special.
(a bit afraid we'll resurrect the many heavy miler threads from the past)
Looks legit. It's only 5:35 mile. That is elite runner's jogging pace.

Your runner’s ego tells me you can’t break 100lbs for a bench

A 5:30 mile is pretty much equivalent to a 180 lb max bench press.
I wouldn't proudly post a youtube video of me "heroically" bench pressing a measly 180 lb. And for the same reason it seems silly for him to post a video of himself slogging a 5:30 mile.

Eh it’s apples and oranges. This guy has just recently shifted focus on endurance sports.
Neither is impressive on their own but when you can do both it is.
I’d also put the equivalent bench higher 5:30 and 225 sounds more accurate.
Better comparison would be bw max Reps. In college we had a mini competition where I won overall with 5.12 mile and 22 bw reps are like 175.

UIghh...No...215 pounds is very big and gets into the territory of NFL-player sized. For most positions, with linemen obviously being heavier.

Exactly...we’re talking a fit ~8 percent bf at 215 not some slouch sitting in a cube farm 6ft 215 eating a bag of Doritos

His weight is listed anywhere from 190-205 lbs. MCM had 3200 registered in the over 185 clyde category with 900 of those over 210. That's one race. There are thousands upon thousands of marathon runners heavier than him.
He recently ran a marathon trying 3:30 but blew up to 4 hour group. He was trying to negative split by starting with the 4 hour pacers...
