Hello all,
Was curious if others had this issue as well. I've been wearing Brooks Ghosts since mid 2015 and have had a continuous problem with the mesh upper tearing on the outside of the shoe. I believe every pear I've had has been retired due to the mesh tearing. Is this a common thing? Anybody else have this issue?
Additionally, for a middle distance guy (800m-mile), do ya'll have any suggestions on shoes that might hold up better? Thanks!
I am a huge fan of the Hoka Clifton 6. No durability issues, super comfortable and very responsive.
Can't speak for this shoe model but this happens to me frequently with some shoes.
In my case it's the big toe nail which causes that.
I just keep running with it until I retire my shoes.
Tearing on the lateral side of the shoe is more common for those who severely overpronate or for those who do too much lateral movement in the shoe. I'm guessing for you as a middle distance track runner, it's probably the minute level of movement around turns, putting stress on the where the mesh meets the midsole.
If you're keen with sticking to Brooks, I'd try either the Levitate or the lighter Launch or Revel.
I'd go with the NB1400 (very durable) or the adidas Boston Boost (also very durable and more 'lock down' with the stripes). The Saucony Ride ISO is also very durable and would be the Saucony equivalent of the Ghost.
Imma let you finish, but I just wanted to say that the Ghost is the best running shoe of all time y'all.
Anything by Hoka, they are built like a tank.

your foot is probably too wide for a ghost. maybe buy it in a wide or try a shoe with a wider last in a standard width
Share frustration. This is best running shoe I’ve ever found and lateral for foot mesh tore after 9 months two pairs in a row. This has nothing to do with pronation this is. A quality issue as they are not reenforcing the upper structure there. Am pushed into buying another model even though I have no desire to do so
