Ok. Now what would the winner take all purse be? Gotta make it big for all those egos to risk it.
Does a cool million get it done? Think they would line up for half a mil?
And finally, how would you bill it? What would you name the race?
-$69,420 plus a lifetime’s supply of automatic World Championship entries for the winner
-$100,000 appearance fees for every athlete
-$100,000 world-best bonus
-Public shaming from the IAAF for any athlete who declines their lane
& I would call it “Dat 600 Tho”—it’s got a nice ring to it, and I like how it’s 3 by 3 characters. That’s the kind of thing we need to bring track and field to a broader audience.
Women:
1. Salwa Eid Naser 1:21.13 WB
2. Dalilah Muhammad 1:21.89
3. Ajee Wilson 1:21.95
4. Raevyn Rogers 1:22.45
5. Sifan Hassan 1:22.93
6. Sydney Mclaughlin 1:23.01
7. Shaunae Miller-Uibo 1:23.04
8. Halimah Nakaayi 1:23.17
9. Dina Asher-Smith 1:25.08
At 400m Miller-Uibo leads in 53.2 with Naser and McLaughlin in her slipstream, Asher-Smith being gradually swallowed up after inadvertently leading at 300m, and Hassan bringing up the rear at 54.6. Naser slides into the lead with 120m to run and holds form to the finish, smashing the World Best. Wilson makes a late run for 2nd but gets pipped by Muhammad, who’s tracked her the final 300 meters. Miller-Uibo, McLaughlin and Nakaayi all start tying up with lactic acid the last 50m allowing Hassan to go marching past for 5th with a 28.3 last 200m. Asher-Smith holds on well enough to show she’s an exceptionally fit lady.
