Getting out at the top is something all great athletes should aspire to but all too often they don't. For example, another Muhammad should have quit after his victory over George Foreman but he didn't and ended up a shell of his former self. With that in mind, Dalilah Muhammad should really get out now but she won't of course. She won't and come Tokyo she will only see the back of Sydney as she goes on to win Olympic gold AND become the first athlete to go below 52sec in the 400m hurdles. And, barring injury, there is nothing that Dalilah can do about it. But just in case you disagree, ponder this. Between now and Tokyo, who is more likely to improve their technique more dramatically? Between now and Tokyo who is more likely to improve their strength and speed...a 29yr old or a 20 year old?
And, the sad thing is that in defeat, Dalilah might be tempted to think that Sydney's victory will diminish all of her, Dalilah's, triumphs. It won't of course but...
