What a race.
Jon and I are only 20 meters from the finish and we both said "98% I think Kipruto lost". Instead he won by .01.
The Kenyan streak lives on.

Mad props to Girma for giving it everything he had. He is the future ... without a doubt. He will break the world record.
That was probably the most excited race of worlds so far! Absolutely couldn't have been closer. Watching Kipruto close after the final barrier while the entire stadium went nuts was just insane. You could even see it in his face immediately after the race that he didn't know whether he had won it or not. Watching the best steeplechaser in the world come back from injury to grab his storybook ending for the 2019 season was a treat. You gotta love it!
Great race.
Nice job by Andy Bayer running an 8:12.47 for a PB! Been around awhile and finally made his first team.
What a fantastic race. One of the greatest steeples I've ever seen. Sub-60 first lap and there were still a ton of guys in with 2 laps left. At the bell, the top 4 started to separate.
Kipruto almost PRd.
Girma lost it when h elooked over his shoulder right after the final barrier - well that and the line a little bit too early.
What should we call his victory dance?

Well he IS flashing the 'OK' symbol during his celebration...
Will El Bakkali ever get his gold?

I would be proud of myself if I just did that.
Kipruto is tranquilo baby
Well Conseslus never disappoints. I was skeptical he will not perform after the DNF in the All Africa Games with the slew of injuries he has heard, but after the heats i knew he was back. This was our SEVENTH(since 2007) consecutive win in the steeplechase. It could have been FOURTEENTH (since 1991) consecutive win if that Kenyan TRAITOR Stephen Cherono ( Saif Saeed Shaheen) ran for us in 2003 and 2005 ??????.......

If there is justice in this world, then no. That guy is as dirty as they come.
The TV live footage also looked like Kipruto lost, but this angle is often misleading.
What you failed to see was he was covering one eye and using the 666 hand sign..more than just being "proud of himself"...its a bit deeper. Yes, great runner but who is he paying homage to?
Here are race highlights for US visitors.
A great year to be a pharmacist. There must be some really good EPO on the market this year.
WR in the HM. Old man Bekele (the EPO King) comes from nowhere to almost break the Marathon WR. Kipruto wins the steeple after looking absolutely awful all year. Sifan's insane 10k, and her breaking a super doped mile WR. Brazier breaks a 35 year old AR.
Exhilarating! It doesn't get much better than that. I thought Kipruto got him on TV but it was hard to tell. I do think the poorly timed lead doomed Girma. Almost as good as that World's where Shaheen had the huge lead and sandbagged or whatever only to barely win - maybe as good. The steeple often delivers a real thrill.
My following of elite track has waxed and waned over the years since I was a highly obsessive semi-elite HS runner in the early 2000s, and I'm so glad that I caught the bug again just in time for this year's worlds, Bekele's run, the Salazar news, etc. What a week, what a sport, what a life.
Hope y'all are having a blast over in Doha!
It was a pretty good race, but in no way compares to the 2003 World Championship, that was run on PURE HATE. That was one of the all time great races.
Jon and I are only 20 meters from the finish and we both said "98% I think Kipruto lost".
I'd be too busy watching the race with less than 3s to go, to say such an exact percentage.
And to say 98% Kipruto loses (rather than Girma (ETH) wins) shows the evident bias.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
