Slight positive split, the race should feel equally hard in the third mile as it does in the first.
example: 18:40 5k, 5:50, 6:00, 6:10, some seconds(last .1), but splits shouldn't be too important to you
IMO this is the best racing strategy, better than straight even splits. This strategy allows you to get in a better rhythm because you can run based on feel rather than being a slave to splits.
