Well done.
Great job Matt.
Good for him.
That should push Hoka to keep him onboard going into the trials.
Buy, likely, that was his once-every-five year goocher.
Could be 2:10 in 2023!
2:11 is good but when a guy in the same race runs 2:01 it indicates we as Americans need to really start focusing on the thon. The Kenyans, Ethiopians, and the Japanese have devoured us at this point. A 2:11 in there running community is lime a 16 minute 5k over here.
Who is coaching Matt?
Seems like no longer Ryan Hall as he mentions former training partner here.

The only way he could have PBed was if he wore Vaporfly. Even without checking if he left Hoka, the result would have suggested it.

Um, bring Llano to Ethiopia and put him on the Bekele dope regimen and he will run Berlin in 2:04-5.

He was in Portland running at Nike with Emily Infeld, at least for a couple of weeks prior to the marathon. Wearing Nike gear. BTC tryout (or hoping for a tryout)?
Except he was in Holland.

No, he wouldn't run 2:04-5 in the circumstances that you described.

Nice time, but he is in no Mans land. In todays environment you must be able to run 2:06-2:07 to be relevant.

This is the real news. Looks like he was dropped by Hoka as early as the new year. He's been wearing lots of Nike, especially in the shoes, but no sponsor in his bio.
On another note, it seems like America's best marathoners tend to train solo. The Kenyans all train together. What if Rupp, Stinson, Llano, Ward, Fauble et al all trained together? I think we'd see a rapid improvement.
They lost the lesson of Team USA. Llano was on a squad for a while. Wasn't he destined for sub-2:10?
At this point, you would not be relevant in the international elite marathon world with a 2:06 since you would finish around a mile back from the true elites. Rupp would not have made the podium at London or Berlin. He finished 5th at Chicago, his last marathon. The truly fast guys are not looking at him as a threat. Maybe here in America we think that's a great time, but it's not like they think he's fast in Africa with how many guys have run 2:04 or faster. It's a little silly how much time we spend arguing around here about 2:11-2:12 guys who couldn't even pace for Kipchoge.
Nope. You don't get more 2:06 guys without more 2:11-2:12 guys.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
