Mel Lawrence time . Oiselle finally has results .
Now that it's way too late for someone to replace her.

Meh, it's her job and there are financial incentives that were in play. I don't fault her for trying to make it to the start line.
Thanks Jerry!
Hasn't had a workout since 8/30, drops right before the meet starts. Could someone else have gone if she'd dropped a week ago?

Disappointing. Quigley reminds me of Fernandez but manages to eek out some good performances at least some of the time. Massive talent that could be absolutely world-class if they could keep healthy enough to put a full season together.
The actions of a grossly selfish entitled person, who doesn't care about anyone but herself.

Um....what? That's a harsh reaction to someone trying to do their job.

You've furnished zero evidence to substantiate your harsh claims.

Indoor mini-peaking put a few coins in the bank. Ten years from now Quigley will brag abour beating Houlihan one time indoors. Ten years from now Houlihan will have one or more Olympic &/or W.C. medals. At least Quigley had that one indoor race for which she peaked.

Of course. Marisa Howard, the Pan Am Games medallist. I emailed her earlier this week to see if she'd heard anything and to see if she could get off work if she got the call. Here was her reply:

Hi Robert,
Thank you for reaching out. I have been extremely frustrated with this situation and watching it unfold from the sidelines. The earliest post that Colleen made about her injury was on September 4th, nearly a month ago. At the least I wish some communication had happened between Colleen and USATF to let the alternate (myself) know that I may be running at the World Championships but I have not heard anything. I am on the tail-end of a two week break and the decision would be left solely up to my coach if he would let me run. We didn't want to keep running in the "hopes" of her pulling out and extend my season based on a late decision by her. More than anything it is a huge financial opportunity for an unsponsored athlete. I believe I was informed at the US Championships that all of the athletes going to worlds would get a significant bonus from USATF.
My boss at work would most definitely let me travel last minute to World's if it came down to that.
We will watch and see how this continues to unfold.
Then tonight I got an email from Lawrence saying.

I wrote her back to see if she'd heard anything from anyone. I assume she's not in Doha and won't be competing.
Update. Just got this back from her.

Not on my way to Doha and no communication from USATF.
What a disappointment. Can someone tell me what the people at USATF are doing? Imagine if track was like the NFL and a team decided to not suit a full roster for the Super Bowl.
She was the alternate. We've known Quigley was hurt for close to a month. Why didn't they at least have a conversation about this? Fly her out to Doha in case Quigley scratched.
Instead. Nada.
With that context, Quigley officially sucks. BS move to make the call this late. Howard just earned a fan in me.
Thank God our appeal worked and we got her into Pan Ams where she won a medal otherwise she would have never gotten to wear the Team USA jersey this year.
Thought Marisa Howard was the alternate? Not to mention the Pan Am Games medalist...

Correct. I had a brain freeze and typed the name wrong. Got up at 5 am with the baby this morning. I've corrected the names.
Note: Initially Rojo said the alternate was Mel Lawrence.
What they should have done was to fly both to Doha and have Quigley see if she could go, and then replace her when she couldn't. I can understand both sides. Quigley would obviously want to hold out as long as possible to see if she could heal and run.
Quigley would have had to scratch close to a week ago for that to happen since the IAAF published the final entry list 4 days ago and deadline for declaring team rosters probably due before that. Athletes scratch at the last minute due to injury, illness, etc. but don't think you can ADD athletes to a roster at the last minute.
