I just wanted to talk some trash this morning and thought I might get a reaction from the Walmsley fans. Also it would be fun if supposedly the best US mountain runners tried to battle for that US title (just sayin). Count me as interested to see how he does in Argentina against Gray and the Euro dudes.
My actual prediction for the Trials is that he has top 15 potential if he focuses training on that race and nails it.
I'm guessing the guys running think they are? Jim's only one guy, and he has focused mostly on ultras for several years so I'm not sure a 14km race is really his wheelhouse right now the same way 10km isn't Kipchoge's. But I hear you - I think too many who get into the ultra scene abandon shorter races altogether which often leads to loss of speed and results.
Conversely, I also wonder how Joe's going to play it this year? He's already selected for the "long" team, should have no problem making the "classic" team (his typical at WMRA), and at World's the classic is Friday/long on Saturday. Rough double there - I imagine it was scheduled that way to prevent duplicate champions.
Totally agreed on Jim and potential top-15 at OTM, actually think top-10 if he focuses on it.
