I have my first meet of the season this Saturday on a course I have raced 7 times, so I am very comfortable with it. I've learned a lot about racing strategy and really want to try and negative split for the entire race, however I always get to the line and don't have the confidence that I will be able to properly execute a race plan like that and end up with my 1st mile the fastest, 2nd mile slowest, and 3rd mile medium (e.g. from my best race last year: 6:04, 6:47, 6:36). I think that if I actually was able to negative split, I could improve a good deal. Before my track season ended with a stress fracture, I actually negative split in both 1600s that I ran and felt awesome. But for some reason, I don't have the confidence in cross country. Any suggestions?
