I've used a knee and ankle brace the last few months and haven't noticed any real difference. Still a bit sore after runs etc. I'm starting to wonder if they serve any actual purpose. Thoughts?

They brace your knee and ankle
imo they make it feel better for a few days, I wonder what long term wearing them would do?
Braces have different levels of support. Fabric, plastics, plastics with aluminum rods, velcro or ratchet closures, some use air pumps or springs.
The protection level will display somewhere on the packaging. Off the shelf use a 1,2,3, system. Level 2 is functional support, Level 3 rehabilitation. Level 1 are typically compression fabric warmers. You may need to experiment with different options. Unfortunately it is a time consuming process, and you might need one for running and a different one for weights, during sex, or whatever else you do.
long term use of a brace could make you weaker or dependent on the device, unless of course there is a permanent or long standing injury, then the brace is really your training partner. Keep at the PT, which will could help wean off the brace. However, those exercises could also be a long term to forever thing.
