Hello I Had my first 5k and ran 16:53. I started off in 5:05-5:06 and don’t really know the rest of splits but I do believe my last mile was faster than my seconds as my coach said on the second mile I was going over 17:00 minutes. I have a bad habit of starting way to fast and would like to fix that. However since I am a more speedy guy I’m not sure if I have the endurance to even split. Is even splitting better for endurance based guys or can a more speedy guy and mike runner like me do it to? If I were to try even splits would a 5:20 all the way through be reasonable? Also should you try to make your first mile a little faster for example at like 5:15 pace? Also how do you not be horrified of getting trampled and getting boxed in? That’s usually a big part in why I go out so fast. Anything is appreciated.
