Let's say I run a 38 minute 10k (9.81 miles/hour 6.07 pace per mile). Why am I not able to maintain that pace (for 38 minutes) on a treadmill?

From my experiences with the treadmill, I always found it harder (physically) to run on a treadmill. After a full winter's training on the treadmill, the first time I hit the streets I find myself going at a ridiculousy fast pace for an easy run altough it feels really easy. In other words, the treadmill can and will kick your ass and make you a better runner... 'nuff said
Ive seen some people say you run slower because it is always on a very slight incline.
Also when you run or PR 38 min 10k you didnt run it all at exactly 9.81 mph. Running outdoors you are always slightly changing pace with tiny dips, wind and air pressure changes, and just simply settling into pace and racing other people.
