Hi all,
I'm in training for my first marathon and would appreciate your thoughts on my target time and pace.
By way of background, I'm a 36 years old from Melbourne, Australia. I ran cross country and athletics in high school and competed at state level a few times. After getting distracted by university/partying and having a family at a young age, I got back into running 5-7 years ago. I've always managed to keep a reasonable base of fitness and perform reasonably well without super high mileage. Unfortunately, however, I've had a long history of injuries, including two femoral stress reactions in the last 3 years. During that time, I've hit around 17.30 for a 5km and 1.22.30 for a half. After a solid block building up to 60k per week over the past 5 months (off my most recent stress reaction), I ran a 56.00 on a hilly 15km course last weekend.
I'm now 12 weeks out from my target race and looking to build up the kms. I've come to know my body pretty well so I'll still be keeping the mileage reasonably low (no more than around 90km per week peak) with one session per week.
Appreciate any input you can offer.
Thanks!!
