Long story short: years of a specific injury forced me into cycling. I can now run again and that's my exercise of choice usually, since I really like it, but biking indoors is very convenient on rainy days, very hot days, or days where I am solo watching the kid and need to get in a workout while he naps, etc. I also frankly dont hate cycling indoors like most people claim to, although I did hate it when I first was hurt and forced into it in lieu of running. In fact, some days I actually like it a bit.
I want to ditch the trainer and use a stationary of some sort. However, I love the feel of being on my road bike.
Motivations for a new stationary instead of my bike are:
1. I want my bike ready to ride outdoors without needing to change to tires that arent shredded from the trainer, less wear on the real bike, too
2. if I have a stationary, my wife can just adjust the settings and use it too, we are too different in height to do that with a real bike
3. feels more stable than something just clamped over the QR spindles
Things I want from a stationary in priority order:
1) road bike geometry
2) not too tedious to change setup so the wife can use it
3) freewheeling, I hate that spin bikes are direct drive to a heavy freewheel, it's fine for a short workout, but anything from 30 minutes to 3 hours, I want to be able to adjust the position im sitting in, like I would outdoors on a real bike.
4) power meter, definitely optional but nice to have some feedback so I can do workouts based on power.
My only goal is general fitness.
Anybody have any suggestions? Due to injury (I've had surgery to fix it), I have been cycling for the past 2 years almost every day, so it's something I'll use often enough to justify putting some money into it. But im a bit lost from the research I've done so far.
I've only ridden a few spin bikes. They've all been great except for the fact that you cant freewheel to adjust your crotch now and then.
