You recruit athletes for your Elite team and tell them they need to be in it for the long haul and you can't keep a Coach. I mean this as no disrespect to Morgan Uceny but what about the distance athletes? This is there 3rd Coach in the last 3 years. Sarah Pagano is looking like the smartest person in the room after leaving with Terrence.

Name one other elite/pro program that has had a revolving door with their Coach?

Athletes should leave now and demand a release from their contract.

Where should these people leave and go? They aren’t good. They are a sub par pro group. If anyone of them leave it should be for real life to get a job.

Santos is a good coach. This was a good hire.

Several of these athletes had options upon graduation.

I agree BAA athletes haven’t gotten much better since arriving there, but they had no other options. They all get paid barely enough to survive in Boston.

J.J. Clark calls Mick Byrne asking for a recommendation and Mick suggests Ricardo. Now the interesting question is whether Mick wanted to dull Stanford’s program or really thinks him a great candidate?

Elaina Tabb has been very good and should move to the marathon but they now have a MD coach.

Erika Kemp won the 15k National Championship and shows signs for moving up in distance. Not in need of a MD coach.

Kaitlin Goodman is running the NYC Marathon. Not the job of a MD coach.

Looking at their roster 7 of the 10 athletes NEED a distance minded coach.

BAA is known for ONE race. The Boston Marathon. This group does not feed their constituents. It is getting worse not better.

This and the previous Oregon hire suggest that two of the three most prestigious distance schools (Colorado being the other) will no longer focus on cultivating American distance talent but will turn to foreign recruits, as Santos did at Iona and Helen Lehman-Winters did at the University of San Francisco. Lehman-Winters currently has only two non-Americans (Australia and UK) out of sixteen on the men's xc squad at Oregon, but she already has 5 foreigners (France, Poland, Sweden, Kenya, UK) out of thirteen on the women's xc squad.

Regarding the Santos news, doesn’t it seem odd for BAA to have scooped Stanford with their release? Announcing Stanford hire in the process of bidding farewell to Santos.

BAA enters the homestretch to the 2020 marathon and track trials with no coach. Not that there are any true Olympic hopefuls there, but still.

Aren't those foreign athletes at Oregon mainly the women who transferred with her from USF? Like an above poster said, they should use more American talent now that they're at schools that the best high school runners actually want to go to.

So Santos goes to a team that is a contender (recall Iona got 2nd his 1st year with all Byrne talent) then the team slowly went down. And now he jumps to Stanford a team that is loaded

It's not like the BAA was killing it, was having a hard time attracting talent. Gotta go foreign, how will that go over on the farm?

There are enough good American runners nowadays who would take the BAA $40,000/year contract. Half the USATF finalists don't make that much. he had a sweet thing going there, but couldn't "recruit". Stanford certainly recruits itself and would be a real shame to go foreign.

That makes sense. I assumed she was in charge of overall recruiting.

Terrence Mahon seems a lot better off in his current setup, and Santos hightailed it back to the NCAA ranks after just over a year. Position may be a hard sell.

Santos had to go the foreign route. He couldn't compete otherwise. Most eastern schools don't touch Africa, he did. To suggest that he'd do the same on the Farm is wack.

Morgan Uceny, a 2012 Olympian at 1,500-meters, has been named interim head coach of the B.A.A. High Performance team as the organization begins a search for the next coach.

Morgan Uceny is set to replace Santos as an interim coach of the B.A.A. high performance team. She is a three-time USATF national champion, including winning the 1,500 meters at the 2012 Olympic Trials. Uceny has run 1:58.37 for 800 meters and 4:00.06 for 1,500 meters.

Some on these boards said the Franklin was a long shot to land at Stanford because of his reliance on international talent. Santos appears to fit the same bill. My assumption is that Stanford will still get a healthy slice of the, American distance talent, pie.
