When J.J. Clark was hired as the new director of T&F at Stanford, I was curious if he was going to be the head cross country coach as well given his expertise was in mid-distance.
Now we have an answer. The BAA has announced that Ricardo Santos is leaving his role as High Performance Team coach to take over as distance coach at Stanford. Morgan Uceny will serve as the interim coach for BAA High Performance Team.
Santos does have experience leading a top NCAA distance program as he was the head man at Iona from 2008-2018, where they were perennially a top-10 team. Iona was 2nd at NCAAs in 2008 (though that was largely due to the pieces left over from the Mick Byrne era). They mostly relied on international athletes, will be interesting if he utilizes same approach at Stanford. Stanford is obviously a more appealing choice for most US high schoolers than Iona.
As for the BAA, they're now on their second coaching search in as many years. Santos was hired in February 2018 and barely lasted 18 months.
