Hi, I am a high school average runner, and I have a 2 mile race coming up(Fastback Shootout), and I was wondering what my estimated time would be? I will elaborate. I started running last year with a 26:01 5k time and a 8:30 mile time, 16:21 2 mile time. This year my PR's are 18:26 5k, 5:45 mile, and 12:24 2 mile time. I train really hard, and try to form my racing strategy like Pre's and El Guerrouj's(even pacing or consistent hard effort) I am trying to make varsity, as this is the first race of the season. The fastest 2 milers are 10:18 and 10:39. The race is separated by grade level, so I won't be running with the fastest one, but the 10:39 is a sophomore like me. I intend to keep the same race strategy, as this is going to be a big fast meet, so it will probably be a good race.
I have been building a good base over the summer, and average at around 47mpw. Some key workouts that I do include:
Long run, about 3 times a week. around 7:50-8:00 pace, mostly for recovery. 6-9 miles, typically 7
Steady state, about once every two weeks, 7:20-30 pace, building aerobic power, 4-7 miles, typically 7
Consistent speed workout, 12x400m with 400m jog recovery usually do them in about 85-87 seconds last two in about 83-84 seconds
Building Threshold pace, 6x800m with 400m jog recovery in around 2:55-3:00, last 2 in about 2:45-2:50
Really hard workouts, but I dont know why we do them:
The "SoCal"
800m
Mile
1200m
Mile
800m
MIle
Mile at 5k Race Pace
Note: Miles are at threshold pace, 800m and 1200m are at race pace. Equal time recovery, Ex: 6:00 mile=6:00 recovery
The "Michigan"
Mile
2000m
1200m
2000m
800m
2000m
400m all out!
Note: 2000's are done at threshold pace, all others done at race pace or faster.
BTW, I usually run each workout in small, but still negative splits. Also, I do the race pace workouts at 6:00 or faster.
