My brother told me the other day that all NFL WR can break 50 while we were arguing if Chad Johnson can beat Cha'iel Johnson in the 400m. He was obvisouly on the side of Ochocinco but I have to disagree whole heartedly for several reasons. The main reason tho is that this man in 41 years old and I doubt has the same lactate strength/endurance that he had in his prime.

"All NFL Wide Receivers can break 50 sec in the 400m"

They definitely can’t. A more reasonable question is “Can all NFL wide receivers break 23.5 in a 200m?” Probably more realistic, but still not sure.
-
I would say a very high percentage have the potential to break 50 if they trained for it for awhile. However, without specific training, the vast majority would run out of gas at about 100 meters. Everything they do is designed to develop explosive quickness over 10-30 meters.

Depends..
Some Wide Receivers are a lot bigger than most would realize. These dudes aren't a lean 160-170, most are 190+ and those are even the guys 6 ft and under. If they're 5'8-5'11, they're easily between 185-195, as their power and explosiveness makes up for the lack of height in most cases.
2005 Chad Johnson, without question. A guy like peak TO was 6'3 220, breaking 50 in a 400? Idk, such a big frame, but we're talking elite specimens. I thought TO ran college track, so I'd be curious what his HS times were, before he hit 220ish as a grown man.
A receiver like DeSean Jackson, he is older now, 32-33, but go back a decade, he easily had sub 50 wheels without much specific training. -
23.5 200?
lol
It's hilarious to see distance runners project their own lack of athleticism on athletes at large.
It's like a WR predicting that most pro marathon runners can probably break 5:30 in the mile because 5:30 seems like a kinda decent mile time to them.
23.5? NFL? good lord.... -

Not all but probably like 95%. 23.5 just isn't that fast and given all the short speed work these guys do and general conditioning, they will do fine. The 50s 400m is bit more out of these guys wheelhouse but I bet you would find most of these guys would be really close. And with any training, you would get a lot of the guys who just miss. -
Most definitely can not break 50. Most NFL receivers are either big bodies that can use their size to outposition defensive backs for the ball or smaller quick receivers who can get separation by getting in and out of cuts quickly. There aren't many straight line burners like Ted Ginn and DeSean Jackson.
That being said, I think Ochocinco can do it. 41 is pretty young to get beaten by your daughter. He was an athletic freak. She had to get those genes from somewhere. -
No. They cannot all break 50 for the 400m. In fact, most of them cannot break 50 for 400m.

if we were to test this out today - no prep, put them all on a track, none could break 50.
-
All yall are tripping. These are the cream of the crop athletes and most of them ran track at some point in their lives! If I had to put a number on it I would say 85% of NFL receivers can break 50! And I would say 100% of all NFL option 1 receivers can break 50! If you do not have the strength to break 50 as an NFL player than you are at a big disadvantage.

umm....yes.
running a 23.5 is about akin to dunking a basketball. It's a decent mark of athleticism but not exceptional by any means.
Take a look at some of the people that can dunk. If you have the right fast-twitch genes you don't need to be in shape to run 23.5 or dunk. If you don't have those genes, you sure as hell aren't going to be playing wide receiver in the NFL. -

show me 1 player in the top 50 here who cant break 50 in a 400 and tell me why? All these dudes ran in the 10's in HS for the 100. Robert Woods ran 46 in 400 in high school. They're ATHLETES. They're not distance runners who don't have an explosive or athletic bone in their body. -
Have you seen Kelvin "Biscuits" Benjamin. This guy couldn't break 60! maybe 65! This is the same guy that an announcer said he was a "Biscuit away from being a tight end". This guys Madden speed rating would be no higher than a 65. I would rather throw a hail marry to Tom F*&^ing Brady than Kelvin. Also have you seen Cole Besley?? this white dude could maybe win the NFL 10K! He may as well be Jared Wards brother with that hair and facial hair.

Please... none of them can. "ooooo sprints are hard". I remember when I was at high school xc practice these pansies used to complain about how doing wind sprints were hard.. You think they can hold it for a full lap? Morans. -
The 400 is no joke, you can’t just get up and do it. Yes, they are professional athletes but there max speed is 100 yards, can they hold it for a 400 meter, I don’t think so. I would say 50% can do it. The young guns can get it but I don’t a lot of the older receivers like Larry Fitzgerald could. Better question is can every running back go 50 seconds.

even Kelvin ran a 4.6 40 which is prob 11 low in the 100 and he's one of slowest at the position. He might be scraping to break 23.5 in the 200 but he's the exception. -
He ran that at the combine in 2013. Your Point is not valid, he has been eating good since then.
-
Being generous, 5% of them could break 50. I doubt that all of them can break 11 for a hundred. Some of the smaller ones on juice, like PEDelman, could maybe break 50.
