Assuming you've been building mileage all summer, hold (or more ideally build) mileage for first few weeks of practice in late August through early-mid September. If workouts and races make it too hard to increase then hold to avoid injuries. After 4 weeks or so of this, either hold for a few weeks or start tapering. By the time of goal race, be at around half of highest mileage week if possible. Long runs evenly spread out from races and workouts, not directly before or after, distance is 20-30% of weekly mileage but depends.
Dad by day, week by week, shouldn't taper till it matters.
I have been 50-55 for about a month, before that took time off after track and then built up to 50. i have been doing the 20-30% long runs and have been doing hills during runs.
