After a three-year absence, I'm heading back to cover the Falmouth Road Race/Falmouth Miles this weekend, so I thought I'd start a thread on it.
The big news -- which LRC can exclusively report -- is that Edward Chesererk will be running the 7-mile race on Sunday. He has raced few times on the track this summer (including a 13:04 pb in Heusden on July 20) and this will be his first race back stateside since the Carlsbad 5000 on April 7. It will also be the longest race of his career.
He'll face Stephen Sambu, Leonard Korir, and Scott Fauble, among others.
Des Linden and Sara Hall are in the women's race. USAs third-placer Josh Thompson is in the mile on Saturday, as are Pat Casey and Riley Masters. The women's mile has Katie Mackey, Cory McGee, and Heather MacLean.
I'm pretty excited Cheserek is racing. I haven't watched him run in person since Millrose and want to know why he didn't run any Diamond Leagues this summer. Could he not get in them?

No. I've lived in Massachusetts since 2001 and can't ever remember it being televised. -

Bummer. It was back in 1982 as I've got it on Beta and I live in Michigan. Thanks for the response Jonathan. -
I find it hard to believe that Cheserek couldn't get into the Diamond League while McDonald did. Nothing against McDonald as he's obviously a great runner, but my money would still be on Cheserek between the two.
Would have been a pretty great NCAA matchup if they were in it at the same time. -

Please just don't call king in any of your reports -
Can you figure out who was born in the US before the race so you don't have to include that info in your post race write-up?
On a more serious note, since Ches will be there, can you be a journalist & ask the questions we've been speculating on for the last several months about his immigration status. Where is he at in the process? Is he a legal permanent resident? Stuff like that. For Korir, will you ask him his plans for 2020 -- does he have any thoughts of debuting at the Trials like Rupp did in 2016? -

Hi Jonathan,
It was streamed on fctv dot org last year although, looking at their schedule, it doesn't seem to be on this year. Please could you ask the race directors what the plans are for streaming it this year?
Also, please can you find out what the streaming plan is for the Elite Miles? They were streamed last year too (on YouTube).

Des Linden FTW.

I really appreciate you not referring to the little arm flapper as "king".

Elite miles will be streamed on the Falmouth FB page below on Saturday evening (5 p.m. ET). Still waiting to hear about the race itself.

Can we stop calling these fields "elite"? Like any sport, there are only a handful of truly "elite" distance runners. I don't think any of them are running Falmouth. In basketball, there are only a handful of "elite" centers, point guards, etc. Nobody calls the backup shooting guard of the bulls "elite". It's the Lebron James and Steph Currys of the work elite. Hell, Joe Flacco won a super bowl and started for an NFL playoff team for years, and most dont consider him an elite quarterback. There are only 5 or so elite quarterbacks. For some reason running is the only sport where we consider thousands and thousands of runners to be elite. We call 2:20 marathoners, runners slower than women, elite. Would we call a mens basketball player who wouldn't be by far the best in the WNBA elite? Over using the term elite makes it difficult for the general public to view these events. They don't know the difference between Eliud Kipchoge and Brian Sell. Let's change the terminology, so the truly elite runners can be recongized as such, and when they are upset by a non-elite, such as Des Linden in the Boston Marathon, it has a greater impact.

Des Linden FTW.
This could be true. Desi always comes through in the year before the Olympics with her speed.
In 2011 she ran a big PR of 15:08
Ran great in the Olympic Trials finishing 2nd in 2012
In 2015 she went back to the track and won the Silver in the PanAm 10k
Ran great in the Olympic Trials finishing 2nd in 2016
She left the Hansons a little over a year ago and said that her new coach was having her focus more on speed. I thought she would have a great track season because it is the year prior to the Olympic Trials but maybe she is just using this new speed on the roads which would be smarter and less likely to get hurt.
Good luck Desi -
Thanks Jonathon!

Jonathan, you're welcome to stop by the Crows Nest at the finish line for a few Frescas. Dont be shy.

If you get the chance please interview Iveen Chepkemoi, she’s a sweetie. Second at Boilermaker and 4th BAA 10k and Bloomsday this year.
Possible winner on Sunday.
