I have had chronic arch and calf pain and tightness for several years now. Strengthening exercises, stretching, massage, dry needling, ART, nothing really seems don’t seem to help or give a long term solution. My arches and calves often feel really tight/sore/fatigued for the first 1-2 miles of every run, especially if the run starts uphill, but after that they usually feel fine. I often have to stop a couple times early in runs to stretch because of this.
I was recently reading about how bad flip flops are for your feet. I tend to wear slides and flip flops a lot. I often even wear them around the house in the winter months. I’m wondering if there is some correlation between wearing these and my chronic feet/calf issues. I was also wondering if anyone else has had similar issues, if you stopped wearing slides or flip flops, and if you saw improvement? And if so, how long did it take from when you ditched the flip flops to noticing any improvements in sore/tight feet and calves?
