There have been a ton of threads discussing whether or not running shoes cause running-related injuries, if we should all strap on a pair of Vibrams or abandon running shoes altogether, etc., so let's not beat a dead horse with that.
It is just difficult for me to believe that a human could possibly run FAST without the help of running shoes. For argument's sake, let's say every single able-bodied human being could go out and run 50-100 miles barefoot and not get hurt because we are the best distance runners on the planet. It is still hard for me to believe that some of the feats we have accomplished would be possible without running shoes.
There is no chance that a: sub 4 mile, sub 13:10 5K, sub 27:30 10K, and sub 2:10 marathon could be achieved without the fancy ergonomic running shoes we have today. Is this generally accepted or is there any reason to believe these accolades could be obtained barefoot? If not, what about barefoot but doped?
