Are there mile or kilometer marks or both? Trying to prepare for splits.
Pre and post race- any tips/comments about getting to the starting line? Is it easy to find people after ?
Thanks

Only three countries in the world don't use the metric system. Germany is not one of them. You do the math.
I think they did splits every 5 miles but they had km markers. Watch out for the hard plastic cups at aid stations and enjoy your alcohol free beer at the end.

Not quite helpful. Every 1k is a fairly frequent so I wouldn't expect to have that 42 times. I also didn't expect many mile marks but it wouldn't be too crazy for a WMM to have some. Just trying to prepare accordingly.
I've never run the Berlin marathon before but have read that there are km markers, not mile markers.
Each of the three Canadian marathons I've run have had markers at every kilometre. Two of them (Ottawa and Toronto Waterfront) are billed as "international" but there were no mile markers whatsoever. I suspect that you will find mile markers only in the US and in London - the latter having both kms and miles.

Having kilometre markers IS international. Pretty much every country in the world uses metric.

Ran it 2015. There's a marker every K and at halfway. Do not remember anything denoted in miles. So start practicing with km paces
The start is crowded and a lot of roads/paths within the Tiergarten and such are blocked off, so I suggest scoping it out the evening before. Likewise, the difficulty finding people at the finish will depend on how fast you are. I ran 2:20 and there were hardly any people around the finish area, so easily located family right in front of the Reichstag. Like any race, designate a meetup spot beforehand.
Good luck and enjoy. I always loved international races
It‘s annoyingly roped off like most races and you‘ll have to do a decent amount of walking after you‘re done to get out. When I ran in 2016, the family station had letters where you could meet. So if your last name begins with P, you could go to the P area, which makes it easier to find people in the crowds.
Ditto on the plastic cups being annoying to drink from and trample over. Also, the year I ran they only had water and this weird caffeinated citrus beverage that I avoided (nothing new on race day mantra).
Splits were recorded every 5K and at the half marathon point.
